Welcome to Rugby School Hanoi

Rugby School Hanoi is founded on the traditions of Rugby School, drawing upon a long-established British approach to education. Guided by the ethos of ‘Whole Person, Whole Point,’ it reflects the character, ambition and values that have defined Rugby School for nearly 460 years.

The Rugby School Hanoi campus will open in September 2026, integrating centuries of educational excellence into the heart of Vietnam.

A message from the CEO, Rugby School Global

‘We are delighted to be opening a school in Hanoi, a city of impressive energy and cultural depth. Our joint ambition is to cultivate young people of character, integrity and compassion, preparing them not only for academic distinction but for lives of meaning, responsibility and service in Vietnam and the wider world.

In September 2026 we will open our Pre‑Prep school. This reflects our belief that the Early Years to Year 2 stage forms the strongest foundation for learning and personal development. It is the first step in a planned, steady expansion.

By September 2027, we will open our Prep and Senior school, providing a continuous educational pathway through to graduation.’

Our School Philosophy

For over 450 years, Rugby School has developed a quantum model – a style of education and educational ethos focused on the academic, spiritual, and artistic growth of pupils who cultivate courage and are not afraid of failure.

The formation of character runs in parallel with the growth of a student’s personal network, and their propensity for collaboration during their school days and beyond.

Rugby continues this tradition of holistic education, emphasising not only academic rigour and creative pedagogy, but also co-curricular enrichment – offering a learning experience that extends beyond the classroom into all facets of life.

The mental and physical wellbeing of pupils is paramount. At Rugby, collaborative teamwork and shared vision are as important as individual achievement.

We aim to develop grounded and authentic people who, as part of an integrated community of Rugbeians, will contribute towards a better future locally and globally.

A British Curriculum

At Rugby School Hanoi, students follow the British curriculum from Early Years through to IGCSE, ensuring a strong academic foundation built on internationally recognised standards.

In the Upper School (Years 12 and 13), students will progress to the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) — a globally respected qualification that promotes critical thinking, independence and intellectual curiosity.

A Distinctive Global Infusion: The German Stream

At Rugby School Hanoi, our curriculum is strengthened by the addition of a German academic stream, delivered within our established British framework. This integrated approach complements the traditions of British character education with the clarity and rigour of German pedagogy. It supports students as they develop strong linguistic skills and a confident international mindset.

The programme is designed with reference to recognised German educational standards and is supported by the German Central Agency for Schools Abroad (Zentralstelle für das Auslandsschulwesen, ZfA). This coherent academic pathway enhances the “Whole Person” journey, preparing students to move into a complex and connected world as capable, well rounded global citizens.

Rugby School around the world

The Rugby School Group has established schools in a number of locations internationally, including: United Kingdom, Thailand, Japan, Nigeria, Dubai.

Rugby School Hanoi will be the fifth international school in Rugby School Group, joining Rugby School Thailand, Rugby School Japan, Rugby School Nigeria and Rugby School Dubai. It is the ninth school in the Rugby School Group overall. Our family of schools share a clear educational purpose: The Whole Person is the Whole Point. From their first day, students become part of a prestigious lineage of Rugbeains, gaining access to the world’s most distinguished universities and a global alumni network.

Students also benefit from the Group’s long tradition of breadth in the arts, sport and creative endeavour. Digital collaboration and in‑person exchanges enable students across our schools to work together and learn from one another. At the centre of group life is our historic House system. It provides a structure of strong pastoral care and belonging, where shared routines and a commitment to one another lay the foundations for lifelong friendships across the Rugby School community.
